Inspired by…my very own tree motif

I have spent the day updating my little site here. I have been playing around with a new theme and trying to customize it. There have been some moments of joy, some moments of frustration and definitely a moment of panic as I accidentally pushed the Publish button while playing around. I frantically undid this and that and managed to delete my post however not before it circulated through facebook and twitter. I apologize to any who were notified and dropped by- I am sure it was good for a laugh! I received a couple of “likes’ so I am guessing that someone out there had a nice little chuckle.

Unfortunately, it has scared me off of my quest to design my own website.I am a DIY’er by heart, but I am one step closer to hiring someone in this situation. I am finding it to be a two steps forward-one step back kind of process.

It’s interesting to note what inspires you when you let your imagination run rampant. I have only covered my inspiration for some leaves, branches and a few trunks here, but one cannot forget the layers of soil, the seedling, the beautiful texture and line of bark, the girth as it grows and the perspective it offers. Think about the forest as a whole.Think of all that is involved from the moss clinging to the side or mushrooms sprouting by its base. Think of all that lives within the forest.

Of course the only song I have in my head right now is “if you go out in the woods today, you will be in for a big surprise..”

Needless to say I now have my work cut out for me, thankfully with no shortage of inspiring thoughts.

Inspired by…creative momentum

Doing double duty here – Illustration Friday and Art Everyday Month. I am feeling very productive. Also blogging, making dinner and listening to an interview with Monica Lee and Smart Creative Women

I need a cape ~ preferably with a beautiful pattern, thank you!

The theme for this weeks Illustration Friday challenge ~trees. How about abstract…with a little snow?

photography, digital art

I am not sure what category this fits into, but I guess it is a combination photography/ digital  art. It is something I have been playing with while learning photoshop. I would love to be able to incorporate more of my photography into surface pattern design. Will keep you posted on how this works for me.So far, it’s been a wee bit slow.I have discovered that the digital art world requires time, patience and lots of hands on exploring.

These are the original photos taken.

It’s half time through Art Everyday month. It has felt really good to take time out everyday to play, experiment and rediscover the fun of following a whim. I have to admit,I receive great joy out of happy mistakes.

Thanks also to Art Everyday for encouraging me to get back into my blogging routine.I have  reconnected with many artists I have met throughout this journey of mine and it has been nice to visit again (and comment). Thank you for all of your comments!

I encourage anyone who is wanting to be creative, but apprehensive about putting it all out there to just do it! We are a very nice and supportive community. I guarantee you will connect with other like minded souls and learn a bunch along the way. I think I need to post a little list of all the weekly groups/ challenges that one can be a part of. Look out for it next week!

See you again in a few days. At the rate I am going, it may even be tomorrow.

I am liking this motif. I think it needs a bit of tweaking, but a good start!

Inspired by…the refresh button

I have just returned from my sunny little world deep down in the Pacific Ocean. I absolutely adore my happy place ~ the Big Island of Hawaii. It is always very bittersweet to leave.
photography, big islandI miss the color, the warm breeze and  the sound of early morning life on the island. I miss all of the unusual flora and fauna, the lava rock and coral. I miss the quality time spent with my friends and family.

I am already counting down the days until I am back there again.

I do love returning home though with fresh eyes and an armful of photos to keep me inspired throughout the long, cold winter months. The snow is starting to fall and I am inspired to make my home my sanctuary for the upcoming winter months. I think lots of color is the answer!

Funny, but here I find myself sitting in my studio paralyzed. I am excited to draw, paint, collage and get my hands dirty, but, for whatever reason, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. The list of things I want to accomplish is long . I know this feeling – it’s a good feeling, but a state of mind where little really gets accomplished as I busily hop from project to project.

I have come to learn to recognize this feeling and I know exactly what to do…

Just start!

art journal,mix media,mark making

Grab journal paper, paint, markers, crayons~ anything and just get started. No pressure to do anything of any importance but just get the creative juices flowing. Make marks, create texture, play with colors.

Just throw some paint around~ feels so good to get messy.

Lessons learned with every mark.
