This one is all about geometrics!

Time to get out your pens and paint! Lots of time left to get working and submit. Due date is September 7th, 2013.

“We will be using the term ‘geometrics’ loosely with all kinds of abstract shapes, motifs and patterns (and not just those using exact mathematical style geometry) being included. “

I am not sure if these are considered geometrics, but once I started it was hard to stop! I like to think of it as the zen of doodling.

I have started a few patterns because that’s how I like to work, but thinking I may submit some collage art as well.

“We are looking for patterns, illustrations and prints that use circles, squares, triangles, chevrons, stripes, dots and dashes, polygons, facets, and all other kinds of imaginative shapes”

I am liking “imaginative shapes”..snowflakes?

Not really sure if these are considered “geometrics”. I may have to get a second and third opinion before I submit. What do you think?

I did enjoy the process and I can see adapting these towards Christmas. No work is ever wasted!

A little more on the geometric side of things…

How about some paper collage turned pattern? Lots of opportunity to play around with ideas for this one!

I really like the idea of pulling these out again and re-working them. They have always been one of my favorites because they remind me so much of the paper collage work I love to do. I think these have some directional issues, but once worked out would fit quite nicely into the category.

I am sure you also have some old geometric prints or pattern that could be renewed!

Well, the summer is quickly coming to a close here in Whistler. The days are definitely getting shorter and the blankets and fireplace have come out for patio entertaining. I am a bit sad, but also a little excited. I like to treat Sept 1st as my second chance. A chance to re-assess my direction for 2013. A chance to accomplish all the goals I set out to achieve at the beginning of the year.

I am happy to say that I think things are running along tikkity-boo!

See you next week!

Inspired by…my style statement

Sitting all alone in my big, empty house. Kids are all accounted for, away at sleepovers, husband travelling and here I am…actually alone. I can honestly say I have never spent a night alone in my house.

Our household is a very busy one. This moment has given me pause to think. I am really not all that far away from being an empty nester. I am not sure how I am feeling about that right at this moment. Usually I would be doing a happy dance, glass of wine in one hand, phone in the other, ready to find some playmates. In reality though ~ Its feeling a bit quiet around here.

Perfect timing to write about this…

book, live by your design,

I have been meaning to write about Style Statement by Carrie McCarthey & Danielle LaPorte for some time now, but truth be told, I am still not finished all the exercises in it. I started out strong, finishing most of them, but then I needed some time to absorb it all. To stop and allow myself to consider and remember the how and why of all the choices I have made to date. That is very powerful in itself. I have found myself having many a’ha moments.

I have gone back to the basics. Not who I want to be or may think I am, but the true, authentic me! The girl in her twenties with few roles and her whole life ahead of her.The dreamer, the one with the rose-colored glasses…  I have chosen my life “style” but am I still true to my “style” after all these years?

The Style Statement, Danielle Laporte, Carrie McCarthy, book review

As many of you here are following me on my creative journey and are aware of my artistically afflicted ways, I know you are thinking…dreamer, flighty, adventuresome, impulsive, hopefully inspiring:)..but with all of this self expression I have had to stop myself many times and question my creations  “is this really me?”

Style is the way you say it, the way you do it, the way you live it. Sometimes it is an appearance. Sometimes it is an attitude.

Style Statement is a workbook. It is very detailed and requires some well thought out answers. It not only encourages you to examine what works well for you, but also what doesn’t work..It explores everything from your health and wellness, to your spirit and even all the stuff you collect inbetween~ your lifestyle map.

It is about discovering your true authentic self. It encourages you to explore, inquire, define and ultimately design…”Live by your own design”

And that is why I am highly recommending this book to you! I know many of you here are on your own life adventures…

This is an invitation to make more powerful choices…to create your life with intention…to communicate who you are in all you do.

I found this book to be very grounding.I am not sure I have learned anything new about myself, but it has definitely served as a  gentle reminder of who I am ..not as a  wife, a mother or daughter…all roles that are very easy to get caught up in…but me. I like to think of it as going back to the basics and then applying them back into my roles and the life I lead now…

A few little reminders I have encountered along the way …

~I love, big, bold and colorful in all aspects of life. I also love black and white, but it is my safety net.

~as much as I would love to be thought of as elegant, I am more realistically bohemian.

~I am playful, crafty, good-natured and definitely do not act my age.

~as much as I would love to think I could live in bright lights and a big city, I am more of a country (preferably by the sea) kind of girl.I would be quite happy driving down the coast in a VW with my family and dog…and my bike and a few art too.It would be a very full VW

The list is extensive.. and less superficial ( I can only share so much;) but I  have had many a little laugh at myself because I often get caught up in my fantasy world and believe I am someone I am not.

Fantasy ~ my closet is full of some beautiful, high-heeled shoes

Reality~ I live in the mountains, my favorite outfit is jeans, a tee and boots and I am sitting here all alone in my house, not out on the town, on my first and only night off from reality.

What about you? Think you are ready to live by your own design?

Inspired by…a little bliss

I love Fridays and the beginning of the weekend. A time to access all that has been accomplished during the week. A time to breathe and enjoy. For us as a family, a time to reconnect after a busy week full of activity and travel.

I recently stumbled upon Liv Lanes  Little Bliss List. I also love it.

In her own words, it provides us a chance to celebrate the little things that brought us hope and happiness this week.

I am going to try to participate on a weekly basis. If you would like to play along it should be fun and I bet will add a nice, warm, little fuzzy feeling to your day.

I found many things to be grateful for this week. I try to take a moment everyday to stop and reflect. I think it makes for a happier me.

This week I found a little bliss in…our delightful little house guest, Ella.

bird, painting,

The house was filled with a song and a dance or two all week. I love the sound of birds…especially in the dead of winter. What surprised me most about little Ella was just how sociable and loveable she was. Trust me, she had no interest in her cage, but was happiest perched on a shoulder or head. At one point I had left her on top of her cage only to discover her climbing up my leg a few minutes later.  We had a little painting session together. Dog at my feet, bird on my shoulder…a sign of things to come?

Cariboo also loved her. He sat at her cage all day long just watching as she sang and danced for him . She loved tossing all her bird seed at him. Try as we might, Cariboo decided he wanted no part of Ella perched on his shoulder.

Found a little bliss…in time for a little daily collage. Always happy in my studio playing with paint and paper. I am really enjoying this new project. I can get my creative yayas out in just one session. Sigh of relief….

Found a little bliss…in my new book The Style Statement penned by Carrie McCarthey and Danielle Laporte. A compass for creating a life that reflects you in every way. This is deserving of a blog post on its own.. watch out for more to come!
lifestyle book,

Found a little bliss in…good, healthy, wholesome food (always…) Pop over to my girlfriends blog In Pursuit of More . She is a wonderful writer and inspires me daily with her wonderful recipes. I love her post today. She has found a little Bliss of her own and one that I could relate to wholeheartedly… exactly why she is one of my bestest!

Please join us over at Livs blog with your own little Bliss list. By sharing it gives each of us a chance to reflect on all the different things that make people tick. I would love to hear and see what turns your wheels!

Its a bluebird day here, the sun is shining bright and the snow is spectacular.
